Course Description

Join us to hear from Bethany Jackson, Legal Director, and Aineth Murguia, Legal Advocate at Tennesse Justice for Our Neighbors (TNJFON) about their organization and similar resources in the Middle Tennessee community.

Founded in 2008, TNJFON has assisted thousands of individual clients in a variety of immigration matters, with a focus on representing low-income individuals who are eligible for humanitarian forms of relief. They primarily serve individuals earning below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level or who face other financial barriers to accessing representation.


Presenters:


TNJFON Legal Director Bethany Jackson is a graduate of Rhodes College and Tulane University School of Law. Before moving to Nashville, Bethany was a partner in a Baltimore-based litigation firm, focused on the defense of pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers in mass tort litigation. Bethany joined TNJFON in 2014 as a Staff Attorney and became Legal Director in January 2019. Bethany’s practice at TNJFON focuses on representing young people who are eligible for humanitarian forms of relief. Her volunteer experience includes work with the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence, Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Nashville Bar Association Pro Bono Program, Nashville Public Library, Nashville Urban Debate League, and Needlink. 

TNJFON Legal Advocate Aineth Murguia received a B.S. in Political Science from Middle Tennessee State University. She joined TNJFON in July 2018 as Legal Advocate and, in that role, has used her significant personal and professional experience to serve our clients. Prior to joining TNJFON, Aineth managed criminal and immigration cases for a private law practice. Her volunteer experience includes working to address hunger in the homeless community by delivering meals on the weekends.
