From Training to Implementation: MI & TIC Workshop
Presented by Mercedes Frierson
Hosted by The Family Collective
9-11am on March 22nd, 2022
Trauma-informed care and Motivational Interviewing are best practices commonly taught in homeless services delivery. The theories, core principles, and information on application are presented. We’ve increased our education on buzz words anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion; however, the continued gap that exists from attending a training to implementation is practice and consultation.
This workshop is designed to actively engage you in deeper-dive intensive discussion and activity around using Motivational Interviewing skills with a cultural humility and trauma-responsive lens. We will briefly revisit core principles and skills of these best practices. Then, engage in “experiential learning” (ie. role plays, demonstrations, breakout rooms or open discussions) as methods to 1) build awareness around your engagement patterns and behaviors, 2) practice MI skills with a cultural intersectional & trauma-responsive lens, and 3) learn additional tools to help you navigate difficult conversations when working with people experiencing homelessness. Lastly, we will quiz your knowledge on what was learned and create a continued-implementation plan for post-workshop.
This course will be presented soon
